FrostWire is the name of a peer to peer program for file sharing. It is meant to be used for the Bittorrent and Gnutella protocols. The program is written in Java and came from LimeWire. The program is free software and was released under a GNU General Public License. Downloading it from the internet can be facilitated safely through its official website.
The FrostWire project was started way back in September of 2004. It was made by members of the LimeWire open source community in response to a decision of the distributor of LimeWire to add a blocking code, due to pressure from the RIAA.
Because FrostWire was written in Java, the free peer to peer software can support multiple platforms. Unlike LimeWire, there is no paid version of the program and its windows version is bundled with a toolbar of Ask.com. It incorporates the functionality of the free version of LimeWire together with a few of LimeWire Pro upgrades.
But there is one FrostWire feature which cannot be found with LimeWire, and that is an online chatroom. The feature makes use of XMPP protocol and enables the user to share with individual messenger friends. Connections are encrypted by TLS.
