File Sharing Networks Unfairly Targeted by RIAA Scare Tactics

|

Recent lawsuits against file-sharing consumers have attracted high profile headlines around the world, but many industry insiders believe that the Recording Industry Association of America is deliberately using scare mongering to frighten consumers away from file sharing networks—and back into the CD stores.

Whilst the RIAA claims that their lawsuits are simply to protect the industry from those wanting to download music for free, many think that the real reason behind the multi million-dollar campaign of intimidation is more about propping up the dying CD industry than protecting artists’ interests. CD sales have fallen considerably in recent years as consumers choose to buy individual tracks from online stores rather than pay for traditional CD albums.

Critics believe that the RIAA needs to wake up and accept that the industry is changing, with online music now the way forward. Instead of penalizing a hapless few, the RIAA needs to consider new business models such as a Voluntary Collective License as suggested by the Electronic Freedom Foundation. But until then, filesharing networks will continue to be unfairly penalized and consumers will keep paying the price for downloading music instead of buying an old fashioned CD.

LimeWire In Courts Again

|

But this yhis time it is the lesser known NMPA that is taking LimeWire all the way. The NMPA – National Music Publishers Association – is the younger sibling of the RIAA. Obviously it shares with its older brother a willingness to go after what it perceives to be perpetrators of copyright crimes against humanity. In this case, however, it looks just like the NMPA is piggy-backing on the (very) recent success of the RIAA in getting a judgement against LimeWire.

Kicking someone when they’re down? Definitely.

LimeWire will rise again. Of that there is no doubt. There is a good, strong precedence for it in the filesharing industry, too. Change name, adapt, move on. So many groups have done it, and for someone with LimeWire’s experience and contacts, it would be surprising if they didn’t. With resolutions in favor of filesharing services coming out in countries like Spain, there may even be a ’safe haven’ for these new companies.

As always, only time will tell what will happen. No doubt the battle between filesharing services and publishers will continue to the end of time: certainly we can’t see the filesharers giving up any time soon.

Taylor Swift Helps Combat Floods In Nashville

|

Media startlet and fantastically wealthy singer Taylor Swift has donated half a million of her hard earned dollars to the victims of the Nashville floods.

Nashville – the home of country music – has been badly effected by floods which have seen many people lose their homes, and many musicians lose expensive equipment, practice rooms, and has caused the cancellation of many concerts. The flooding of Nashville might not seem much different when compared with so many other natural disasters across the world, but it is Nashville’s iconic status within music circles that makes this particularly moving to many in the industry. Perhaps it is the fact that this place is so near to musician’s hearts that has helped them to give so generously.

Swift has shot to fame of late and, despite her tender age of 20, has been ranked the US’s 69th most powerful celebrity. Her albums in 2008 sold a combined four million copies. Wow.

Whilst half a million might be a relative pittance to someone of Swift’s means, it is a moving gesture that will surely help get relief efforts under way. Hopefully it will also start an avalanche of other wealthy stars providing the area with much needed monetary assistance.

Filesharing News: Eminem Sues Apple

|

The popular white rapper Marshall Mathers, better known to his fans as Eminem, has gained headlines again by accusing the giant technology company “Apple rotten to the core”. He is suing the company who runs the popular music downloading website Apple Itunes, for allowing unauthorized downloads of his music from their site. Copyright issues have come up over and over again with websites using peer to peer file sharing to allow music, movie and other file downloading, however they usually are not directed at the Apple company. Musicians stand to lose thousands and thousands of dollars when there music is illegally downloaded through sharing programs over the Internet.

Apple Infringes Copyright

“Apple rotten to the core” is the slogan that has come out of one of Eminem’s latest publicity stunts. Marshall Mathers III is a rap artist who records under the name Eminem and is also known as Slim Shady is known for the controversy that follows him and he has had his own share of legal battles. This latest one involves accusations from Eminem that the giant company Apple who operates Apple Itunes, perhaps one of the most popular and well known music downloading websites, has allowed users to illegally download his music. He claims that Apple were breaching copyright laws and the contractual agreements that were in place did not allow for Apple to sell his songs. This could potentially be a multi-million dollar case.

Wary of Using Ares P2P File Sharing Services

|

I have always been a little wary of using P2P file sharing services. Mainly because I am worried I will get in trouble with the law. Now I have another reason to worry about doing this, since there was an article in the paper about how limewire causes security breach. I would only use this sort of program on a computer that didn’t have any information I wouldn’t be willing to let other people see. I can’t believe someone put it on a work computer, that is just clueless. Depending on what they were downloading the might have been breaking the law, and they risked their job as well since most companies don’t allow this sort of thing.

Why file sharing is popular today

|

File sharing is popular today and millions of users share music, games, movies, and software. In fact, file sharing gives people access to a wealth of information, which is normally achieved through peer-to-peer or P2P technology. With the help of a P2P program, you can connect to other users running the same program and download whatever you wish to. The best thing about file sharing is that millions of users could be connected at one time, so they have the chance to find even the rarest of files they are looking for. File sharing software can be downloaded free, and is easily accessible.

Since file sharing exposes computers to various risks, it is essential that you choose a program that takes care of unwanted viruses and spyware. Make sure you check the settings when you install the software and do not give others access to your private data such as emails, bank accounts, tax returns, and other personal information. Use an effective anti-virus program and make sure you close your connection if you have a broadband service. You can also adjust the program’s controls in order to prevent the program from automatically opening. Do this and you can enjoy endless hours of entertainment and build up your exclusive collection.

Why Exactly Should I Use Ares?

|

Many people ask me why I choose Ares filesharing software over all of the other variations that are available. The quick and honest answer is that Ares makes it easy to choose it: putting yourself so far ahead of the competition is only likely to have happy consequences.

Great Choice, Great Selection

First up on my list of reasons why Ares floats my boat so very buoyantly is the immense choice of downloads available. Typing in the name of a popular artist into the search facility will result in thousands of potential downloads. Not only does this great selection mean that there is more chance of you finding the songs that you like, but it also means you can choose files served by the faster downloaders, files with more seeders, and higher quality files. All of this adds up to a positive experience every time I fire Ares up.

Then of course there is the variety of material that can now be found on the Ares network. Gone are the days when Ares was suited almost exclusively to small downloads like music or ebooks: now I can download free movies and games just as easily.

It Just Keeps Getting Better

The Ares software has been improving almost continually for the seven years that it has been available. The improvements in software, infrastructure and sometimes just abstract concepts have not all come in the same products (in fact Ares Galaxy, the Father of all Ares implementations has pretty much disappeared down the pan), but nonetheless they have quickly permeated across the Ares range.

Take a well known version such as Ares Vista as an example of a cutting edge member of the Ares Team. Ares Vista was originally developed to address major problems being experienced by Windows Vista owners. Windows Vista’s security system was playing havoc with the p2p filesharing process, making it pretty much impossible to get anything from the network. Aresvista stepped up to the plate and solved the problem. From then the Aresvista developers have shown that they can meet problems head on, quickly address them, and keep the punters happy.

Is Ares Vista The Future?

Who knows what the future brings for filesharing? Governments across the world are starting to look very carefully at the supposed damage that filesharing is doing to big media; it is likely that some proactive action will eventually become a reality. As for Ares Vista? Again, who knows. It took the top spot off another version of Ares, and there is no reason to suggest that another competitor will not come along and usurp Aresvista from the top seat. For now, though, there’s only one application leading the pack. For now, the choice is easy.
